November 4, 2024

Dear Rams:

Next week, on Friday Nov. 15, the Colorado State Rams will host the Wyoming Cowboys at Canvas Stadium, with kick off at 6 p.m. The Rams are now bowl bound after Saturday’s win against Nevada, and we anticipate this nationally televised game against Wyoming will be our 4th home sellout of the season. We also are proud to celebrate Military Appreciation Day on Nov. 15, in recognition of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends who are veterans, active duty members of the military, and military connected families.

This will be our first Friday night game at Canvas Stadium since 2021, and it should be especially exciting since it will be the annual Colorado State-Wyoming Border War, a football rivalry that dates back 125 years. A lot is at stake because the outcome of the game could position us for a conference championship, and we plan to beat the Pokes and bring home the Bronze Boot!

A Friday night game will require a coordinated University effort. As excited as we are about this game, the academic and research missions of CSU remain paramount. As outlined in the addendum below, we have planned options for how classes and research can be conducted on the afternoon of Nov. 15. Instructors can consider modifications to in-person gatherings including remote instruction, and alternative assignments or projects. However, we recognize it is at the discretion of the instructor to determine what is best for them and their students. Those who must be on campus for critical research and teaching activities or staffing needs can request employee game day parking permits via their department heads or unit supervisors. Staff members should coordinate with their supervisors about their ability to work from home or to request a permit.

Additional information for faculty, staff, and students regarding parking, academic and research activities, and University operations on Nov. 15, is provided in the addendum below. We realize preparing the campus for a Friday night game might impact your normal routine on campus. Thank you for your patience and efforts to accommodate this event for the 2024 CSU football season, and for your flexibility in support of our student athletes and those who are excited to cheer them on.

Go Rams!

Guidelines for Parking, Business Operations, Academic & Research Activities

Game Day: Friday, Nov. 15, 2024

The President’s Office and Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President have been working with the Vice President for University Operations, Athletics, and other units to prepare for this season’s Friday night game and to minimize disruption to CSU’s normal operations. Please adhere to the following guidelines.

Parking and Access to Main Campus
  • Employees who can work from home or other remote locations on Friday, Nov. 15, should consider making arrangements with their department heads or supervisors in advance. If you must come to campus, please remove your vehicle by noon. Supervisors are encouraged to accommodate employee requests for remote work, if feasible.
  • Access to main campus parking and roads will be extremely limited starting at noon.
    • The majority of lots along with street and meter parking, and the two garages will begin closing at noon on Friday. Additionally, some lots will close as early as 7 a.m. on Friday. A map with the time and location of lot closures is posted on the CSU Athletics Football Game Day website.
    • The entrance/exit traffic pattern on campus streets will transition for game day by 1 p.m.; this means that virtually all access roads to and from campus will be inbound traffic only. Once this pattern is in place, only a few vehicle exits will be available on the east side of campus.
    • Parking lots will open to game ticket holders starting at 2 p.m.
    • Anyone without a game day parking permit must remove their vehicle from designated campus lots, garages, meter and street parking by noon, unless you have an employee game day parking permit issued by your department head or unit supervisor – see the section below on employee game day parking permits.
  • If feasible, please consider alternative transportation such as Transfort  or MAX, or ride your bike to avoid parking and driving on campus.
  • Faculty and staff are advised that some offices and units will need to be fully staffed for most or all of the day to provide services to students and employees, and they may be required to physically report to campus, depending upon their supervisor’s decision about unit needs.
  • Hours for student repark, which requires students who live in the residence halls on main campus to relocate their vehicles, will begin late afternoon through midnight on Thursday, Nov. 14. Students will receive direct messaging with more information about their repark hours and locations. This will include direct email messages from Athletics the week of the game, along with additional messages from Housing and Dining Services.
Classes, Labs, Studios
  • In recognition of possible hardships for instructors and their students regarding access to campus for Friday classes, labs, or studios that convene at or after noon, we encourage instructors to  consider modifications to in-person gatherings including remote instruction, and alternative assignments or projects. However, we recognize it is at the discretion of the instructor to determine what is best for them and their students.
  • Students with Friday afternoon classes, labs, or studios should wait to hear from their instructors about plans for Friday, Nov. 15.
  • For instructors who have a need to be on main campus on Friday, Nov. 15, after noon, we encourage you to request an employee game day parking permit via your department head or consider alternative transportation, if feasible. Such permits are offered in limited quantities.
Research
  • As with teaching, we recognize there may be possible hardships for research faculty who have a need to be on campus on Friday, Nov. 15, after noon.
  • If you or member(s) of your research team need to be on campus after noon, we encourage you to request an employee game day parking permit via your department head or consider alternative transportation, if feasible. Such permits are offered in limited quantities.
Employee Game Day Parking Permits Will Be Provided by Athletics
  • Faculty and staff who need to be on campus after noon on Friday, Nov. 15, should request an employee game day parking permit from their department head or unit supervisor by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Such permits are offered in limited quantities.
  • Department heads and unit supervisors who receive a request for an employee game day parking permit can evaluate the request and send it forward to Athletics at [email protected] or 970-491-RAMS (7267).
  • Please contact Parking & Transportation Services for questions regarding parking on main campus prior to lot transitions.
  • Please contact the Rams Ticket Office for questions regarding parking after lot transitions at [email protected] or 970-491-RAMS (7267).
Please note:

More information on lot closures, optional parking locations, student repark, Around the Horn shuttle and Transfort services, business operations and support services, employee permit requests, and related game day timelines will be forthcoming in emails from the Vice President for University Operations and Athletics to targeted faculty, staff, or student audiences, accordingly.
